The widely varied concert program includes Samuel Barber's Essay No. 2, Paul Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphosis and Shanti Om from The Mahabharata composed by Randy Armstrong. Shanti Om, a composition inspired by the mystical and ancient music of India, features the sitar, tabla, dilruba and upright bass. It honors Ravi Shankar and George Harrison, who played a pivotal role in introducing Western audiences to the classical music of India. Shanti Om was performed as the finale of a score composed by Randy Armstrong for the 2014 Phillips Exeter Academy production of “The Mahabharata,” the epic poem of India. The PSO performance will feature an expanded arrangement and orchestration by Steve Blake. The 2018 PSO Student Concerto Competition winner for voice Baritone Matthew Giallongo will perform "E fra quest'ansie" from Pagliacci and instrumental co-winners Sarah Heimberg on trumpet, and cellist Griffin Seuter will perform the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto and Schumann’s Cello Concerto respectively. A preconcert "Inside the Music" discussion with music director John Page takes place at 2 pm. Tickets are $25/Adults, $22/Seniors, $12/Students and Children.
