Voices from the Heart celebrates “The Next Journey!” with 200 a cappella women's voices on June 3rd at 4:00 and 7:30 p.m. at South Church, 292 State Street in Portsmouth. Director, Joanne Connolly, takes the audience on a musical adventure, starting with a vibrant greeting from Namibia and exploring anthems of freedom, solidarity, moving forward and rising up with hope. The sojourn concludes with the inspiration of the great Carly Simon “Let the river run, let all the dreamers wake the nation!” “I once commented to a physician friend how hard it must be to hear all the very difficult challenges of her patients. She said it was, but that for each patient with a difficult diagnosis, she knew the path and would walk the walk with them. I loved hearing that.” says director Joanne Connolly. Through lyrics of civil rights, the blues, spirituality, and protest, we are reminded that when things appear divided, we are traveling together on our paths in life, “We Are All Walking Each Other Home.” Revel in African drumming with Randy Armstrong and Drumamma, and gospel piano, bass and drums with Matt Jenson, Winston Maccow and David Rivera. This concert is sure to lift spirits as we proclaim together, “I cannot sing all the songs that the world needs, but the world needs all the songs that I can sing!”
