Agnes M. Lindsay Trust shows continued support for dental care
PORTSMOUTH – The Agnes M. Lindsay Trust recently awarded a $5,000 grant to Families First Health & Support Center. Part of the grant will support the mobile dental services that Families First provides at Cross Roads House in Portsmouth, the Salvation Army in Rochester, and the St. Vincent dePaul Society in Exeter. Last year, about 500 people used these services. The remainder of the grant will go toward the Dental Patient Assistance Fund at Families First. This fund is used primarily to help patients living below the poverty level obtain restorative care and dentures.
“For dental services, we have a sliding fee scale that goes down as low as $35 per visit, which represents only a fraction of our cost to provide that visit,” says Families First Executive Director Helen Taft. “Yet because many of our patients have such low incomes, even $35 is not affordable. And if prosthetics are needed, our steepest discount might still leave the patient’s portion of the fee as high as $1,200. The Dental Patient Assistance Fund helps the patients cover their portion of the fees and allow them to get the treatment they need.”
The Agnes M. Lindsay Trust provides oral health grants for equipment and program support to nonprofits located within their geographic giving area of New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont.
