Call for Art
November 3 – December 23, 2017
**Submissions accepted through Wednesday May 31 2017**
Portsmouth, New Hampshire…Portsmouth Historical Society is now accepting submissions for its third annual “What Artists Look Like” exhibition. Photographer Jay Goldsmith is once again teaming up with the Society to host this widely popular exhibition. The selected artists will be photographed by Goldsmith in their studios. The portraits will be on display at the Academy Gallery at Discover Portsmouth from November – December 2017. All chosen artists will have two works of art accompanying their portrait. 3-d art is encouraged. What is your art?
“What Artists Look Like 2017”
A wedding and family portrait photographer by trade, Goldsmith uses a unique printing process. His technique is an homage to the days of crisp black and white images and hand-made prints. He starts with an 1873 invention known as the platinum-palladium process. In a dimly lit room, the photographer brushes this chemical emulsion onto French watercolor paper as was done almost a century and a half ago.
Submissions must be received by Wed, May 31, 2017. Selected artists will be notified shortly after the submission process and required to drop off works Monday October 30. The Opening Reception will be held Friday, November 3, from 5-8 pm during Art ‘Round Town. The exhibition will run through Saturday December 23. Discover Portsmouth is located at 10 Middle Street, Portsmouth, NH and is open daily from 9:30 am-5 pm.
Submission Guidelines: Artists must be currently living and/or working in the greater Seacoast; all art must be for sale; previously selected artists are not eligible. However artists who are not selected for the current year are encouraged to re-submit for future shows. Artists are asked to submit a submission form, CV, Artist Statement and four images of works they wish to be included in the exhibition.
