Five Artists Visit Children's Museum in One Week

Dover, NH – (Wednesday, July 19, 2017) The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire will be bursting with art after Visiting Artist Week.

Five different local artists will visit, one every day between Monday, July 24 through Friday, July 28, 11am-noon, and guide guests through a special art-making project inspired by their unique styles.

Monday, July 24th, Neva Cole, who also happens to be the museum’s Communications Director, will encourage families to tear up, rip, cut and glue painted paper into collaged sea monsters. She says, “I wouldn’t object if a mermaid or pirate find their way into our scenes either.”

Tuesday, July 25th, Tess Feltes, who is also the curator of the museum’s Gallery 6 art exhibition space, will share her watercolor knowledge. Did you know all birds start from eggs? Of course you did! But, did you know that bird paintings start with egg shapes? Learn to draw and paint birds using simple geometric shapes with Tess, who has illustrated numerous scientific books and articles.

Wednesday, July 26th, expert seamstress Cindel Lamothe, will explain a bit about the process of sewing – from patterns to fabric to putting it all together into a fabulous final product. She says, “Visitors will create an adorable felt dinosaur that they can put on a pillow, apron, or frame and put on their wall.”

Thursday, July 27th, children’s book illustrator Gina Perry will show guests step-by-step, how to draw a unicorn, bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, a mermaid and possibly even a dragon. Gina’s most recent illustrated picture book “It’s Great Being a Dad” by author Dan Barel was published by Tundra Books.

Friday, July 28th, Seacoast pastel and acrylic painter Francois Lamothe will share some tips and tricks about painting flowers using chalk pastels. He says, “Be sure to come prepared to get messy…although our materials are washable.”

Visiting Artist projects are free with museum admission, free for Members, and take place as drop-in programs between 11am-noon every day Monday, July 24th through Friday, July 28th, 2017. To learn more visit www.childrens-museum.org or call 603-742-2002.
