Portsmouth, NH, Oct 2, 2018 - New York Times bestselling author Lee Child returns to Portsmouth as part of the Writers on a New England Stage series on Tuesday, November 6 with his latest electrifying thriller, in which Jack Reacher is haunted by family secrets...in New Hampshire!

The 7pm event includes an author presentation followed by an onstage interview and discussion. As series partner New Hampshire Public Radio will be producing on-going coverage of Election Day results that evening, Lee Child will discuss his work with moderator Margaret Talcott, Producer of Writers on a New England Stage.

“We are thrilled to welcome Lee Child back to Portsmouth on November 6, and to hear about Jack Reacher’s latest adventures, this time, in territory familiar to all of us and to NHPR listeners,” said Talcott. “Taking our hero deep into fictionalized New Hampshire woods and into the very real cities of Laconia and Manchester, Lee’s latest, PAST TENSE, digs deep into Reacher’s past and into secrets rooted in Yankee sensibilities.”

Jack Reacher has extended his thumb and hit the pavement. His plan is to follow the autumn sun on an epic trip across America, from Maine to California. He doesn't get far. On a country road in rural New Hampshire, deep in the New England woods, he sees a sign to a place he has never been: The town where his father was born. He thinks, What's one extra day? and takes the detour.

The next morning in the city clerk's office, Reacher asks about the old family home. He's told no one named Reacher ever lived in town. He knows his father left and never returned. Now Reacher wonders, Was he ever there in the first place?

As Reacher explores his father's life, and strands of different stories begin to merge, he makes a shocking discovery: The present can be tough, but the past can be tense...and deadly.

Lee Child is the author of twenty-two New York Times bestselling Jack Reacher thrillers, with thirteen having reached the #1 position, and the #1 bestselling complete Jack Reacher story collection, No Middle Name. All his novels have been optioned for major motion pictures—including Jack Reacher (based on One Shot) and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Foreign rights in the Reacher series have sold in one hundred territories. A native of England and a former television director, Lee Child lives in New York City.
