Lionel Bart’s classic musical Oliver! Will be presented at the York Community Auditorium April 26-28April 12, 2019
The York High School Drama Club in association with the York Parks and Recreation Department will present the Lionel Bart classic musical OLIVER! at the York Community Auditorium, 1 Robert Stevens Drive, York, ME on Friday, April 26 at 7 pm, Saturday, April 27 at 2 pm and 7 pm and Sunday, April 28 at 2 pm. Lionel Bart’s classic musical OLIVER! is a Tony Award-winning musical that has entertained the world for more than 50 years. The 1967 movie version swept the Oscars winning 7 awards including Best Picture and Best Song. The musical follows the journey of the Charles Dickens orphan character Oliver Twist as he manages to escape the workhouse through a series of events that lead him to a home he never knew he had. The score is filled with classic songs including “Consider Yourself”, “I’d Do Anything”, “As Long As He Needs Me”, “Food Glorious Food”, “Boy For Sale” and the Oscar-winning “Where is Love.”
More than 65 students aging in range from 7-18 will star in this musical which features graduating seniors and longtime York High School stars Marie Hamel as Nancy and Noah Fox as Fagin. Other graduating seniors include Peter Arsenault as Bill Sykes, Jynessa Leblanc as Mrs. Bedwin and Danielle O’Connell as the Rose Seller. The production is Directed and Choreographed by George Hosker Bouley and Designed by Steve Hamel. The production is Musically Directed by Cynthia Keating and Evie Finucan.
This production marks the first collaboration between the York High School Drama Club and the York Parks and Recreation Department. This collaboration will allow the large scale presentation of classic musicals on a community-wide level.
