Northeast Credit Union Declares Another Year of Success for Community Tax Support Program
Portsmouth, N.H. – The CA$H Coalition’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program proved to be successful once again, thanks to the tremendous volunteer efforts and local support. The VITA initiative offers free tax preparation services to members of the community, made possible by the dedication of the Rockingham Community Action Program and the United Way of the Greater Seacoast. Northeast Credit Union’s Portsmouth branch hosted the program once again, and continued their supported with a $5,000 donation to assist with needed funding.

This year, NECU helped process 641 federal returns, resulting in $793,946 in federal refunds. The program as a whole helped process $1,828,565 in federal refunds across the Seacoast.
VITA owes its success to the 29 gracious volunteers, 14 of which included students from Spaulding High School and the University of New Hampshire.

“We are incredibly impressed by all of the program’s volunteers, who selflessly devoted their free time to assisting those in need of guidance,” expressed Tim Collia, Northeast Credit Union’s President and CEO. “The VITA program is a perfect example of how our communities grow stronger when we work together. Thank you for your outstanding work.”

“The United Way of the Greater Seacoast and Northeast Credit Union share the same goal, and that is connecting people with financial education and resources,” said Cindy Boyd, Regional Director of the United Way of the Greater Seacoast. “Through Northeast’s financial assistance we are able to help countless families not only file their taxes, but also educate them on other financial benefits that they may be eligible for. Knowledge is the first step to being financially smart.”
