NH HOMEBUILDERS RECOGNIZE CJ ARCHITECTS FOR DESIGN EXCELLENCE

Portsmouth firm receives three Cornerstone design awards

PORTSMOUTH, NH, November 2, 2017 – CJ Architects, a leading regional architectural design and management firm responsible for the design of the seacoast’s future landmark buildings and communal spaces has received three Cornerstone Awards for design from the New Hampshire Homebuilders Association at their recent awards ceremony. The annual awards are given to companies in recognition of their excellence in the building industry.   CJ Architects won Gold in the Light Commercial Design category for its work on the Portsmouth branch of Optima Bank and two Silvers for Architectural Design-Light Commercial and outdoor living space at the 223 Vaughan Street mixed residential/commercial building also in Portsmouth.

For the Gold Award, CJ Architects designed a new 3,500 square foot retail location for Optima Bank that reflects the bank’s unique brand.  Located in the heart of Portsmouth’s Historic District, the retail space design reflects the historic charm and current vitality of the downtown neighborhood.  Optima Bank & Trust provides service to commercial and personal customers for deposit products and commercial and residential lending.

The two Silver Awards were earned for the design of a rooftop oasis and for the light commercial design of 233 Vaughan Street, a mixed-use building that reflects the transitional architecture of Portsmouth’s expanding North End community. Located on the edge of the city’s Historic District, 233 Vaughan blends historic design with modern detail combining traditional elements with contemporary demands for quality retail and residential space.  The building contains nine spacious residential units and three commercial spaces sharing a progressive lobby space and numerous amenities to include a rooftop pool; private green roof garden space with grills and fire pits; underground parking and even a dog run.  Geothermal heating and advanced building envelope technology make this project environmentally friendly.

“My team and I are honored to be recognized for our work and to receive these prestigious awards from the New Hampshire Homebuilders,” stated Carla Goodknight, Principal Architect and owner of CJ Architects.  “We strive for design excellence and are proud to create desirable spaces that are not only practical but are great living and working environments.  Every structure is the result of a collaborative effort, and we appreciate the builders who work with us to turn concepts into reality.”
