Project SEARCH of the Seacoast Seeks Business Advisory Council Members

Portsmouth, NH - Project SEARCH is a school-to-work program for students with developmental and physical disabilities founded at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in 1996 and is now nationwide and in England and Australia. Through a total workplace immersion, Project SEARCH (www.projectsearch.us) facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration, and on-the-job training and support for its students. Our goal is to have our students graduate and become independent adults working in a competitive and constructive environment.

Locally, Project SEARCH of the Seacoast of New Hampshire is a joint collaboration between Portsmouth Regional Hospital and Great Bay Community College. Our Business Advisory Council (BAC) is a group of volunteer professionals who provide advice, support, and networking connections to assist Project SEARCH graduates in obtaining internships (unpaid) and employment opportunities.

Currently, Project SEARCH of the Seacoast has two Board Advisory Council openings. Candidates would preferably be individuals from the Seacoast business community. In additon, we are also seeking to establish partnerships with local businesses who may be interested in offering work or internship opportunities for program participants, and/or financial support for the program. We believe that members of the business community in particular have a vested interest in ensuring that young adults are equipped to have the skill set to become successful participants in the local economy as both a productive worker and an empowered consumer.
