The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire’s March Alzheimer’s Café, a monthly program designed for families who have a loved one with dementia, will feature music by the Morris Family Band. On Thursday, March 16 from 2-4pm the band, which consists of Heather and Mike Morris and their two daughters, Lily and Rosalia, will play a combination of Mike Morris’s original tunes, Lily and Rosalia’s favorite fiddle tunes and songs, and their own spin on some Irish favorites.
Heather Morris said “Mike describes his music as FreeStyle Folk: a spontaneous combustion of freewheeling folk songs, acoustic guitar and live looping. When Lily and Rosalia join in, they play fiddle tunes on their violins and sing favorites like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, You Are My Sunshine, Camptown Races, a few of the School House Rocks songs and our own rap version of the ABCs!”
The Alzheimer’s Café is held the third Thursday of each month from 2-4pm, and invites people living with Alzheimer’s, along with their family members and caregivers, to gather in a supportive, non-clinical setting to relax, enjoy refreshments and socialize. “We’re so happy to welcome the Morris Family Band to this month’s Alzheimer’s Café,” shared Paula Rais, CMNH VP of Development and Community Engagement. “They’ve performed for our younger museum audience for other programs, and we’ve noticed that people of all ages are fascinated by the talented Morris girls and their tiny fiddles! This should be a fun afternoon.”
Reservations are not needed and there is no cost to attend the Alzheimer’s Cafe, though donations are accepted. Visit www.childrens-museum.org for more information. Alzheimer’s Café is sponsored by Abbie Moseley Trust, Seacoast Rotary and the Ouellett and Furbush Family Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.
