    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Volunteers Sought for Jenness Beach Cleanup

RYE—Even though it’s still winter, there’s still litter on the beach. Blue Ocean Society seeks help with their monthly cleanup at Jenness Beach on Saturday, February 10.

Removing trash from the beach will protect both people and marine life. Litter on the beach is unsightly, can be unsafe, and can wash offshore, where it can harm wildlife though entanglement or ingestion.

The cleanup is open to everyone – groups, individuals and families. During the cleanup, volunteers will record their findings on data cards to help the organization learn about trends in marine pollution.  Last year, more than 3,800 items were recorded on Jenness Beach at 14 cleanups, and 500 pounds of litter were collected. Top items found included cigarette butts, bottle caps, plastic bags and straws.

The cleanup starts at 10:30 AM and all supplies are provided. To sign up, visit www.blueoceansociety.orgor call 603-431-0260.
