This film tells the true story of the relationship between Alan Bennett (writer of History Boys and The Habit of Art) and the singular Miss Shepherd (played by Maggie Smith), a woman of uncertain origins who ‘temporarily’ parked her van in Bennett’s London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years. Written by Alan Bennett, who also plays Alan Bennett. Directed by The National Theatre’s Nicholas Hytner.
