Valerie's Gallery in Portsmouth, NH will be exhibiting art work of students from the Portsmouth Middle School from November 4 through November 20. A variety of pieces, in various mediums that represent projects from 6th, 7th and 8th graders, will be on display. There will be an opening reception on Friday, November 4 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the gallery, located at 117 Market Street in Portsmouth. Events are always child-friendly, and offer light refreshments. This student exhibit will feature perspective drawings, prismacolor close-up animal eyes, painter's tape contrast portraits, and paper mache oversized leaves. For the tape portrait section students are taught how to observe and measure the proportions of the face, and understand the head in three dimensional form as well as how to translate that to a two-dimensional surface to create a realistic representation. For Paper Mache students start with four observational drawings of different leaves and investigate what is symmetrical, what is not, and how to map out the shape. "This is such a nice opportunity for us to pause our normal exhibits and highlight community youth art for a couple of weeks,” says Valerie Stainton, owner of Valerie's Gallery. “We're impressed with the art programs here in Portsmouth and are excited to be another public space for their work to be appreciated. We look forward to seeing families and friends visit the gallery and show their support." Valerie's Gallery is a gallery and fine craft shop with locations in Portsmouth, NH and Newburyport, MA. Since 2002, Valerie’s has showcased functional and decorative hand-crafted artful objects by 100 American artists and craftspeople, mostly from New England. From artisan-made jewelry, to functional pottery and original art, each artist is a specialist in their craft. Both galleries are open daily.
