A Beautiful View: New Hampshire Art Association kicks off celebration of 80th year
PORTSMOUTH – The New Hampshire Art Association is kicking off its 80th year with an exhibit titled, “A Beautiful View” during the month of August.
“We plan to have a big splash in November,” said NHAA Board President Renee Giffroy. “This exhibit is a tease to give people a taste of the fine work our members produce in a variety of mediums.”
NHAA is a non-profit art association founded in 1940, and as such is the oldest statewide art association in New Hampshire and one of the oldest in the country.
It has approximately 250 juried artist members representing a wide variety of visual arts mediums including: painting, photography, printmaking, sculpting, textile art, and mixed media.
All of its talented artists live and work regionally throughout New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the NHAA’s gallery on State Street was closed for almost three months, reopening June 5.
“We have been bringing the arts to the public for many years and try to be responsive to the changing times for our artists and potential buyers,” Giffroy said.
“Because of that, in this exhibit we are featuring all small works that are affordable,” Giffroy said. “We are confident visitors will find a beautiful piece of artwork to take home.”
The gallery is following the CDC and state’s recommendations for safety while visiting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Call 603-431-4320 if you have any questions. NHAA is now offering the ability to view work in the gallery by appointment if someone wants to visit outside of scheduled open hours.
“During this peculiar time, which is full of uncertainties, the experience of viewing art in person is not going anywhere,” said MaryAnn DePolo, NHAA’s gallery manager. “Appointments are a part of the new normal. I am really grateful we have reopened and are able to move forward with offering a socially distant physical space to view and purchase artwork.”
