PORTSMOUTH – The New Hampshire Art Association will be holding a “Body of Work: Series II” exhibition during the month of July at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery on State Street.

NHAA holds several “Body of Work” shows throughout the year to give its members an opportunity to show a grouping of their works as opposed to having one piece getting lost hanging among many other artists’ works. Artists are chosen by a lottery for each of these series.

This second BOW exhibit at the gallery this year, features nine artists exhibiting in a wide variety of media.

Artists included in this show areTy Meier exhibiting pen and ink illustrations; Bess French, assemblagesculptures; Diane Boulet, acrylics; Kevin Molloy, photography; Jeffrey Wagner, oils; Sheila Clough, acrylics and oils; Joe Flaherty, oils; Claudia Rippee, photography; and William Townsend showing digital fine art.

    About some of the artists:

    Jeffrey Wagner
Wagner’s Body of Work is titled, “Coastlines.”

“The 18 miles of New Hampshire coastline is the open space in a heavily forested state, and each side of Route 1a has its charm,” he said.

Wagner noted that the marsh side is textured with wetlands, meadows, tidal streams, and tree lines.

“The ocean side, usually calm, will occasionally surprise with late day light, or spectacular cloudscapes,” he said.

Wagner didn’t start out as an artist, but said persistence is a trait, and he’s kept his head in art world for decades. Over the years, he’s attended art classes, and taken numerous workshops from “great teachers.”

“Landscapes are my favorite subjects and I try to provide a narrative, avoid much detail, and nod at times to more abstraction,” Wagner added.

    Diane Boulet
Boulet, a renowned international artist, shares her time between Quebec and Maine. Of an adventurous temperment, her abstract works in acrylic reflect her permanent desire to escape from her comfort zones.

Her “inner impulses” and “coups de coeur” and reflected in her Body of Work titled, “Coastally Daring.”

    William Townsend
Townsend’s exhibit titled, “Into The Mystic,” includes both single and dual panoramic mages that began as photographs.

“By using digital tools and panoramic interconnections, I transformed the line, form, flow and color of the photographs,” Townsend said.

“The initial photograph is a starting point to explore and discover the simple and complex forms and lines that live within the original image,” he continued. “My goal is to create images that bring forth the beauty and wonder at the heart of both the natural world and the realm of the imagination.”

In addition to being a juried member of the NHAA, Townsend also belongs to the Plymouth Art Guild in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
