PORTSMOUTH—On Nov. 4 Pro Portsmouth announced that due to the scale and scope of the multi-indoor venue event, and the challenges surrounding large indoor gatherings due to COVID-19, First Night Portsmouth 2022 will focus on outdoor-only activities for Dec. 31, 2021.
In order to present the outdoor activities, including fireworks and ice sculpture, Pro Portsmouth is calling on the community for financial support. The non-profit has started a campaign to raise $15.0K to cover not only the material costs, but the safety costs (insurance, police, fire, DPW) as well.
“Traditionally, First Night features performances in multiple indoor venues which are accessed with the purchase of the First Night Button,” said Executive Director Barbara Massar. “First Night is the only event we produce that requires an admission fee, and that revenue is used not only to pay the performers and musicians, but also to fund the fireworks and ice sculpture. Without that funding source this year, we’re asking the community to support the outdoor-only activities that everyone can enjoy when ringing in the New Year.” For information on how to support First Night, go to https://proportsmouth.org/.
