  • Arts In Reach (AIR) announces purchase of new headquarters and NHCDFA Tax Credit Award

DURHAM - Arts In Reach (AIR), the Seacoast's leading organization empowering teen girls and gender-expansive youth through creative youth development programming, is thrilled to announce the purchase of its first permanent campus. After 27 years of fostering creativity and mentorship in temporary locations across the Seacoast, AIR has secured a perfectly-suited property at 81 Dover Road, Durham.

This long-term investment in AIR’s mission, Seacoast teens, and the teens to come, marks a significant milestone in AIR's journey. The property includes a house that will be transformed into AIR's new offices and will serve as a hub for community-wide connection and resources. Adjacent to the house, is a spacious barn that will undergo renovations over the next several months. The result will be expansive, accessible, and inviting program spaces, ideal for the teens AIR serves and the creativity that will happen within.

These renovations will be supported in large part by an award from the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA). The CDFA announced June 18, it has awarded $6.6 million in tax credits to projects throughout New Hampshire. These funds will significantly impact initiatives that advance local community economic development goals and build capacity within New Hampshire’s nonprofit sector. Arts In Reach is honored to be among the recipients, receiving $312,500 in tax credits to support the reconstruction of a barn into a center for art and connection. This dedicated programming facility is crucial to AIR’s ability to expand its offerings and serve more youth in the community.

“The organizations awarded tax credit resources have demonstrated a strong commitment to their communities,” said Katy Easterly Martey, executive director of CDFA. “These organizations, coupled with the reliable resources through CDFA year-over-year, will continue to advance important community-based projects within New Hampshire communities that really make a difference to Granite Staters.”

"AIR is embarking on a groundbreaking opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of Seacoast teens," said Jennifer Minicucci, executive director of Arts In Reach. "After nearly three decades of operating our programs out of temporary spaces, this permanent home will provide badly needed consistency - a critical factor to a trauma-responsive approach. The floating model served AIR in good stead for many years, but the time has come to shift our staff time and resources toward running more programs, more frequently - serving exponentially more teens. The mental health crisis affecting teens nationally and across the Seacoast requires our board and staff to really live our mission - be brave, tell our story, ask for what we need, and create an inspiring future. The outcome of this bold step will be a lasting resource for generations to follow.”

AIR extends heartfelt gratitude to the Seacoast community. A great many community partners and supporters believe in AIR’s empowering mission and offer their collaboration and generosity. AIR’s former board, staff, and volunteers created a strong foundation upon which this new legacy is being built. The teens and alumni of AIR continually inspire and motivate the ongoing work. The organization looks forward to welcoming all, hosting community events, fostering connections, and creating a dynamic center for creativity and personal development at its new headquarters.

Details about the grand opening and upcoming events at AIR's new home will be announced in the coming weeks. The organization is eager to celebrate this milestone with the community and continue creating a vibrant, inclusive space where young people can thrive through creativity.
