"Threads: A Community Quilt for 2020" Exhibition Opens Friday, August 7

Thank you to our generous sponsors for making this show possible!
    Zooming In on Quilts
Lynne Zacek Bassett's lecture, "Early New England Quilts and the Labor of Quilting" was a big success! We're getting the hang of this virtual lecture thing, and finding that watching remotely has it's advantages. No traffic, you don't have to worry about parking, you can get really close to the screen to see details, plus, you can wear pajamas!
Here are some links to Bassett's projects, past and present:

Next up, on Thursday, August 27, Jennifer Swope, Assistant Curator at the MFA’s David and Roberta Logie Department of Textile and Fashion Arts, is going to talk about some connections a few of the objects in the exhibition may have with some historical people of note, as well as discuss coverlets and their New Hampshire history. Stay tuned for more info!
    We Have Handmade Masks!
As facemasks are this year's fashion statement, and our Museum Shop specializes in local and/or handmade items, of course we have  handmade masks! The masks to the right are patchwork to go along with the "Threads" quilt exhibition, and are available in many different colors. The masks below are reversible with one solid-colored side and one patterned side. These also feature a few inches of elastic where the ties meet the mask, so you don't have to untie to take it on and off! $12, any size or style.
Also in stock is a favorite from last year: Insect Shield scarves! These lightweight, oversized scarves repel mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges, and the repellant lasts for 70 washes!

Insect Shield scarves are $28, and we have a variety of colors and patterns.

    Just a Reminder!
To keep guests, staff, and volunteers safe, we are requiring that masks be worn indoors at all times while at any of
    Portsmouth Historical Society's facilities.

We have plenty of free masks, and there are hand sanitizing stations throughout our buildings!
