PORTSMOUTH -- WSCA 106.1 FM – Portsmouth Community Radio is pleased to welcome new board members: Stuart Dias and John Thompson.
Dias is a local musician and longtime community advocate who joins the WSCA board to help bolster student and minority outreach initiatives. He has been actively involved in community outreach and projects such as developing ‘Story Time’ programming at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire, working with the Rock My Soul choir at hospice performances, and performing monthly at Maple Suites and Silver Square retirement communities in Dover. Dias also started and developed the Seacoast Congress of Sound – a music and arts festival that highlights the best that the seacoast has to offer while giving 100 percent of the proceeds to a different non-profit each year. Recipients in the past have been Cocheco Academy of the Arts, Children's Museum of New Hampshire and Planned Parenthood of Northern New England.
“I believe in the message of WSCA and want to help grow the station not only on the airwaves but in the minds of the citizens of the Seacoast through engaging and facilitating ongoing active dialogues with students and minorities throughout the area,” said Dias. “It’s imperative to me to help maintain the inclusive nature of the organization and I aim to bolster both as a member of the active board.
Fourteen years ago, about the same time Dias moved to the Seacoast, JT Thompson moved to Portsmouth for a job at Portsmouth Brewery. He has spent his career in the craft beer industry in production, communications and marketing. Thompson built and currently manages Notch Brewing's Mobile Biergarten. His previous board commitments were as founding officers of the New Hampshire Brewers Guild and BREW NH.
“I’m very excited to join this talented and creative board to help invigorate this wonderful community asset,” said Thompson. “I’m excited to help increase awareness of the station’s events to encourage WSCA’s growth and stability. I live in the west end, so being able to get involved in my neighborhood was massively appealing. Personally, I’ve already found an amplification of my love of new and interesting music.”
