Thanks to Gravity is known as one of the quintessential Portsmouth, NH bands from the heyday of the local music scene in the 1990’s. Formed at UNH in 1989, they gigged relentlessly and were one of the first bands to tour nationally and sign a record deal with a major label.
Although rooted in rock, Thanks to Gravity is respected for their penchant for thinking outside the box and their achievement of a truly unique sound. The music is eclectic and rich with harmonic textures. Andy Happel’s crafty songwriting is delivered unconventionally via violin, keyboards, bass, and drums. The compositions include elements of progressive rock, Classical, Baroque, riff-rock, and college indie-rock. Their frenetic live performance coupled with a level of musical sophistication is appealing to a wide range of music aficionados.
Thanks to Gravity disbanded in the early 2000’s and reunited for a few concerts in 2012 and 2013. This rare performance includes Andy Happel, vocals, violin, guitar; Drew Wyman, bass; Sean Daniels, drums. And special guests: Duncan Watt, keyboards; Pete Witham, guitar; and Todd the Rocket, percussion
