Artist Talk with Peter Bruun + Elisif's Story Film Screening Tuesday, September 10 5:30pm Gallery Reception // 6pm Artist Talk // 6:45pm Elisif's Story Screening + Q&A Free and open to the public -- “I still love heroin. I just hate everything it comes with.” — Elisif Bruun On February 11, 2014, Elisif Janis Bruun became one of 47,055 Americans to die of an overdose that year. That annual figure has only increased: In 2023, drug overdoses topped 112,000 in the U.S. The opioid epidemic is still raging. When Elisif died, her father (Peter Bruun) created Elisif’s Story, a video that takes an unvarnished look at his daughter’s life and death. Presented as a 36-minute audio-collage made up of voices of those who knew Elisif, it delves straight into the bafflement that comes of addiction affecting a loved one.
Please join us for an evening of two parts to view and discuss the art and stories of Peter and his daughter, Elisif Bruun, as we seek to lessen the pain and isolation that comes with addiction. Part One: Peter’s Story 5:30 - 6:30pm
A reception and a meet the artist opportunity for Peter’s exhibition, Each Has Their Grief, in the Main Gallery at 3S Artspace. Remarks from the artist on the exhibition will be made at 6pm. Part Two: Elisif’s Story 6:45 - 8pm Screening of Elisif’s Story followed by a community conversation led by Peter Bruun.
