Admission to the grounds is free, but there is a suggested donation of $4 for adults and $2 for children (12 and under) to tour the lighthouse. Children must be 42 inches tall to climb to the top, and adults are not permitted to carry children up the stairs.
Join Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouses, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, for the third annual Family Weekend at Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, July 4 and 5, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on both days. Here's what's in store: - Tours of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. (Please note: Children must be 42 inches tall to climb to the top.) - All afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday, the scalawags of the New England Brethren of Pirates will be on hand to entertain with games, swashbuckling, and humor. They'll also have a special friend along - a mermaid! - At 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, there will be a talk presented by a representative of the Center for Wildlife in York, Maine, with some local animal ambassadors. Learn about summer wildlife adaptations! - Starting at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, enjoy live music, stories, and shenanigans with Shannachie.
