From St. Mary's Bank
In 1908, Monsignor Pierre Hevey, Pastor of Sainte-Marie’s parish in Manchester, N.H., organized what was soon to be known as the first credit union. The goal was to help the primarily Franco-American mill workers save and borrow money.
On Nov. 24, 1908 we officially opened our doors in Manchester, N.H. as “La Caisse Populaire, Ste-Marie” (The People’s Bank) and became the first credit union in the nation.
St. Mary's is now located at Pease International Tradeport at 20 International Drive, Portsmouth. This full-service branch also houses mortgage services, helping members meet all their banking needs. Additionally, the office has the latest in technology with a drive-up, interactive teller machine or ITM. The ITM allows users to access live support.
