Are you curious about how auctions work? Are you interested in how museums and collectors build their collections? Moffatt-Ladd House & Garden museum guide Kristin Goodwillie has worked in both auction houses and historic house museums and will give a talk about how museums and collectors build and strengthen their collections by buying and selling at auction. Kristin worked for Ron Bourgeault at Northeast Auctions for seven years and specialized in appraisals. She has extensive experience in buying and selling antiques, paintings, and ceramics. After she retired, she began guiding at the Moffatt-Ladd House & Garden, giving tours to visitors from all over the world. Her depth of knowledge helps connect visitors to the pieces on display at the museum, giving a greater background of how the residents of the Moffatt-Ladd House interacted and used the items they left behind. Just in time for Devin Moisan’s auction in Dover, Kristin will detail how the auction process works and at the end of her talk, we’ll go into the house and tour the first floor. A Portsmouth Federal-era sideboard, attributed to the firm Judkins and Senter, a recent acquisition at auction for the museum, will be highlighted. The public is invited to attend the talk for just $5 per adult.
