Description
The New Hampshire Art Association will host the 37th Annual Omer T. Lassonde Exhibition. The theme this year is uncaged joy.
Starting April 5, the New Hampshire Art Association will host the 37th Annual Lassonde Exhibition in the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery at 136 State St. in Portsmouth. The show will present work from New England artists in various mediums. Theresa Choi, the Assistant Curator at the Ogunquit Museum of American Art, is the juror. Choi said she was “blown away” by the number of submissions and impressed by the energy of the artwork. “There were bright colors and patterns and many wild animals...it seemed like they could not be caged,” she said. “I could just imagine these ideas, patterns, and colors leaping out of people's minds and hearts.” Choi, who has a decade of curatorial experience with contemporary artists and art organizations in New York, Boston, and New Hampshire, had the difficult job of wading through 372 submissions by 155 artists. In the end, she selected 70 pieces. She hopes that her choices convey an overarching feeling of joy. Choi will choose the first, second, and third place winners during the opening reception Friday, April 7. The winners will receive cash prizes. Funding for this exhibition comes from the Omer T. Lassonde Trust through the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. The exhibition will be on view at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery from April 5th to April 30th, with an opening reception on Friday, April 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of the Art Around Town First Friday art walk in Portsmouth. The public is welcome. The Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery, at 136 State St. in Portsmouth, is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 am to 5 pm; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Visit www.nhartassociation.org or call 603-431-4230 for information.
