Come celebrate 100 years of jazz over two extraordinary evenings of incredible music. The faculty of the Jazz Institute at PMAC (Portsmouth Music and Arts Center) continues its annual tradition of transforming The Loft into an old-school jazz club. This year, in honor of the 10th anniversary of PMAC Jazz Night, the PMAC faculty will curate TWO special nights of jazz arrangements and original music spanning the past century of jazz.
Each night features a different 8-piece jazz band made up of the Seacoast’s top musicians. On Friday, we remember the origins of jazz with music from 1917 to 1967 - celebrating New Orleans Dixieland, swing, Bebop, and Modal jazz from Louis Armstrong to Charles Mingus and more. Saturday’s concert brings the audience from 1967 to the present, exploring free jazz, fusion, and the influences of rock and pop from such artists as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Joshua Redman, and Madeleine Peyroux. Each evening is completely unique - attend one night or both!
Performers include vocalists Taylor O’Donnell and Nicole Hajj, trumpeter Chris Klaxton, saxophonists Matt Langley and Russ Grazier, pianists Mike Effenberger and Jonny Peiffer, guitarists Bryan Bergeron Killough and Jim Dozet, bassists Nick Phaneuf and Steve Roy, and drummers Mike Walsh and Jim Rudolf. These concerts are generously supported by Tangram 3DS and Jumpin’ Jay’s Fish Café.
