Tickets can be purchased online at brownpapertickets.com at http://phantomoftheopera1925.brownpapertickets.com/. Prices are $12 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years; or at the door for $15 for adults and $8 for children under 12. Proceeds will benefit the non-profit, Voices from the Heart, a 200-women alternative chorus located in Portsmouth. In addition to singing locally, the chorus brings its soulful music and message of goodwill and celebration to other countries. The chorus will go to South Africa in July 2018, raising money to strengthen South African organizations engaged in improving the lives of women, children and families.

It promises to be a deliciously scary pre-Halloween evening when renowned South African pipe organist Zorada Temmingh performs an improvised soundtrack live during screening of the 1925 silent horror masterpiece, The Phantom of the Opera, at South Church, 292 State Street, on Saturday, October 29 at 7:30 PM. This unique opportunity allows attendees to experience a superb musical performance while viewing a time honored classic the way it was meant to be seen when first released. Imagine the dark, ominous organ music as backdrop for Lon Chaney’s spine-tingling performance as the menacing, fang-toothed phantom lurking beneath the Paris Opera House! Known for her boundary breaking approach to classical music, the organist, Ms. Temmingh, has received critical and popular acclaim for her silent film organ improvisations. She has released five CDs and performs internationally, and at many prestigious music festivals. Ms. Temmingh looks forward to performing at South Church with its near perfect acoustics and soaring organ.
