Shokazoba began in 2005 in Northampton, Massachusetts as a 17 piece Fela Kuti tribute project. We now produce original work, aiming to inspire positive social change by creating and performing conscious, funky, danceable music with topically relevant lyrics in the style and integrity of Fela's Afrobeat. Shokazoba has performed at a great variety of clubs, music festivals, theaters, and private parties. From New York City to Montreal, our music is well received by most people as It is intended to be uplifting and accessible. Shokazoba earned the Valley Advocate's award for "Best World Music" in 2007, 2010, 2011, and 2012, their "Best Funk" award in 2008, "Best Jazz" in the My411 Source poll in 2009, and we were nominated for best live act of 2016 by the New England Music Awards.
