South Church hosts This Breath, This Heart
South Church, 292 State St., Portsmouth, hosts the 200 singers of Voices from the Heart on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 4 and 7:30 p.m. Songs sung on the breath and from the heart are from a bountiful range of cultures and styles.
The concert will inspire hand clapping, moments of quiet tenderness, and dance-in-your-seat African beat, American gospel and Zimbabwe music accompanied by the WorldBeat Marimba band. Randy Armstrong, Kent Allyn, Jon Booth and Rob Kneeland will be on hand to add their instrumental prowess.
“Last summer Kathy Bullock from Kentucky and Bongani Magatyana from Cape Town, South Africa, came to the seacoast to share authentic American gospel songs and South African a cappella music with us”, said Director Joanne Connolly. “We are excited to be singing both at this concert, including a very special piece written by Bongani Magatyana called 'Mandela’, dedicated to Nelson Mandela.” This concert will surely sell out.
Get your tickets early. Tickets are available online at brownpapertickets.com and in person at RiverRun Bookstore, 32 Daniel St., Portsmouth. $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Contact Joanne Connolly at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
