Fledgling: Artists Under 30- Open Juried Exhibition

PORTSMOUTH—For the third consecutive year, the New Hampshire Art Association (NHAA) proudly presents
Fledgling: Artists Under 30, an exhibition dedicated to uplifting emerging talent. As part of NHAA’s ongoing commitment to fostering the next generation of artists, Fledgling has become a vital platform for young creatives to showcase their work and engage with the local arts community. Each year, the exhibition features artists from diverse backgrounds working across a variety of mediums, reflecting the energy and innovation of a new artistic wave.

Fledgling was juried by Amy Regan, owner of See Saw Art in Manchester, NH. In 2008, Amy earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with a concentration in fine art photography, from the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, NH. In 2011, she became a founding board member of the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts, a community art initiative dedicated to the accessibility of contemporary artworks made by regionally, nationally, and internationally recognized artists. Over the years, Amy has worked with more than 1,200 artists at all stages of their careers, curating exhibitions in spaces ranging from local coffee shops to museums.

With this breadth of experience, Amy brought a keen eye to the jurying process, seeking works that demonstrated both artistic risk and authenticity. Reflecting on her selections, she shared:
“I have selected artworks that take chances and show resilience. Artworks that reveal the artist's true style and voice. It takes grit and guts to keep at an artistic practice and exhibit your artwork. I feel that these selected artworks show tenacity and do not flinch at the difficult path of a practicing artist… Looking over the submissions, a few themes have jumped out at me. The true quality on display is both exciting and welcome. To have such high-quality artwork at the beginning stages of these artists' careers is a huge advantage and will help the artists stand out in the future.”

    Atmosphere- Member Exhibition

NHAA invites art lovers to experience Atmosphere, a soaring new exhibition that explores the boundless nature of air, light, and emotion. Running alongside Fledgling: Artists Under 30, this exhibit celebrates the skills of those who have mastered their creative skies.

What does “atmosphere” mean? Is it the soft shimmer of light through clouds, the vast and endless expanse of space, or the charged energy of a fleeting moment? Whether evoking airy elegance, deep emotional resonance, or limitless heights, the artists in Atmosphere challenge viewers to look beyond and above, embracing the freedom of artistic flight.

While Fledgling highlights emerging talents taking their first flights, Atmosphere belongs to those who navigate its currents with the confidence of experience. This dual exhibition offers a dynamic contrast—youthful exploration alongside the mastery of seasoned artists—all within the walls of NHAA.

Atmosphere pairs perfectly with what is currently on view in the W.C. Gallery—the unique exhibition space located in the bathroom of NHAA’s main gallery—artist Alexis Stefano’s installation, Dreamers Headspace. Through dreamy, cloud-inspired works, Stefano creates a serene environment for relaxation. Calming hues surround viewers while clouds float overhead, transforming this intimate setting into a portal for introspection. Let your mind wander—what landscapes will you discover? Dreamers Headspace will be on view through April 27th.

Fledgling: Artists Under 30 and Atmosphere will be showcased at the Levy Gallery at 136 State St. Portsmouth, NH from March 7th to the 30th. The gallery will also host a networking event for young artists on March 20th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.
