The Athenaeum houses more than 25,000 of Armsden’s images. His invaluable work captured the essence of the mid-twentieth-century Seacoast region of New Hampshire and Maine.

    Incorporated in 1817, the Portsmouth Athenaeum is a historic library, gallery, and museum that contains an extensive collection of photographs, ephemera, archives, rare books, artifacts, and digital collections related to local history and genealogy.
